Alterna Do it for Dad! Run and Family Walk

Alterna Do it for Dad! Run and Family Walk is a family-friendly event that features a timed 5km and 10km race, and a 2km “Family Fun Walk”. 2010 marks the 12th annual Alterna Do it for Dad! which is held at Anniversary Park at Carleton University in Ottawa on June 20 – Father’s Day.
The aim of this initiative is to raise awareness and funds in the fight against men’s cancers including prostate, colorectal, and testicular. All funds raised go directly to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation (ORCF) in support of cancer research, patient care, education, and capital needs in Ottawa and surrounding regions. The ORCF aims to ensure a greater quality of life and survival for patients and their families. Funds raised by participants residing in the Gatineau, Québec area are re-directed by the ORCF to the Gatineau Hospital Foundation.
According to the latest reports from Cancer Care Ontario, prostate and colorectal cancer are the leading causes of cancer deaths in our province. Colorectal cancer is now the third leading cause of cancer deaths in women after lung cancer and breast cancer. Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men and is growing in occurrence for men ages 30 to 44. These cancers affect everyone. The impact of any cancer diagnosis extends to friends, family, and colleagues.
