Alterna Board Elections & Nomination Process

Every year Alterna Savings holds Board Elections to fill vacancies for expired terms or other vacancies that may have occurred. Alterna Board Members are generally elected for three-year terms.

Successful Candidates are collaborative, community-minded, growth-oriented individuals with demonstrated leadership experience and qualifications that fosters an inclusive, diverse and high-performing Board of Directors.

Nomination and Election Process

Each year, the Board of Directors appoints a Nominating Committee that is responsible for ensuring the integrity and quality of the Director nomination and election process and that candidates are well informed about the process.

The Application Period opens in October each year and runs until late November.

A Board Candidate Information Webinar is held in the first few weeks of October, on or about the time that the Application Period opens to provide further information on the Nomination and Election process.

The Nominating Committee reviews and evaluates all applications received and schedules interviews for qualified candidates in early January.

After interviews are completed, the Committee determines which candidates it will recommend to the membership for election. All qualified candidates, whether recommended or not, are entitled to stand for election.

Alterna’s elections are conducted via electronic voting conducted over the weeks leading up to the Alterna’s Annual General Meeting in April.

The successful candidates are announced at the Annual General Meeting each year.
