Alterna Savings Members Awarded Seventeen Ontario Credit Union Foundation Grants

Toronto, ON – October 3, 2022– Alterna Savings is delighted to congratulate all 80 recipients of the
2022 Ontario Credit Union Foundation’s (OCUF) CU Succeed Youth Bursary – including seventeen members of Alterna Savings. This is the largest contingent of Alterna members to have been named recipients of this scholarship. This group also contains former members of PACE Credit Union, which became part of Alterna Savings in June 2022.

The OCUF bursary is awarded annually to students who have demonstrated financial need and strong engagement in their local community. Student submissions are assessed by a 9-member review panel and measured on community involvement, personal circumstances, academic achievement, letters of reference, and essay quality.

“Alterna is so proud to support students through programs like OCUF’s CU Succeed Youth Bursary. This year’s recipients have demonstrated exceptional perseverance and commitment to achieving their goals and giving back to their communities as young, energetic leaders,” said Rob Paterson, Alterna Savings President, and CEO. “ We are so excited to honour such a large group of students and celebrate their contributions to their communities as they pursue their educational future.”

CU Succeed Youth Bursary amounts range from $1,000 to $3,000, with a total of $100,000 awarded in 2022. Since the program’s inception in 2016, $536,000 in bursaries has been awarded to 407 students across Ontario. Alterna and PACE members specifically have received $98,500 in bursaries in total.

“This year’s bursary winners are an incredible group of students who have demonstrated excellence in their educational endeavors and in their commitment to giving back to their communities. The rising cost of living makes additional supports, such as our bursary program, a valuable supplement
to offset living and other expenses, and we are so grateful to be able to provide that support,” explained Frugina Ball, Alterna’s Region Head of Member Experience in the Greater Toronto Area and OCUF Vice Chair.

“I would like extend my whole-hearted congratulations of all this year's bursary recipients, especially the 10 PACE Credit Union, now Alterna Savings, members. I look forward to our continued
sponsorship of this program with Alterna, and providing support to future community leaders," said Ben Choi, Interim COO of PACE, now part of Alterna Savings.

Alterna is a proud sponsor of the OCUF’s Annual Golf Classic, the primary fundraising initiative for the bursary program. As a Platinum Sponsor and a Gold Bursary Booster, Alterna has contributed over $50,000 to the program since it's inception in 2016, helping to empower students to achieve their
academic goals and continue to grow as leaders in their communities. This year's tournament took place on September 12 at Hidden Lake Golf Club in Burlington. For more information about OCUF and a complete list of CU Succeed Youth Bursary recipients, please
